STORY
In ancient Egypt, the bee was the emblem of lower Egypt; a symbol of the giver of life, birth, death and resurrection. For at least four thousand five hundred years, the Egyptians have been making hives out of pipes of clay or Nile mud, often stacked one on top of another. These hives were moved up and down theNile depending on the time of year, allowing the bees to pollinate any and all flowers which were in season. Special rafts were built for moving these hives, which were stacked in pyramids. At each new location, the hives were carried to the nearby flowers and released. When the flowers died, the bees were
taken a few miles further down the Nile and released again.
Thus the bees traveled the whole length of Egypt. This tradition continues into the present day. Ra was the sun God and Egypt's most important deity. It was believed the tears of Ra upon falling from the sky and touching the desert sand transformed into honey bees. Many hieroglyphic artworks depict the worshiping of Ra alongside the honey bee paying tribute to the giver of this "liquid gold".
The bee is a symbol of wisdom, for it shows adeptness at aiding the cycles of nature.
